Your heating & air conditioning equipment are very similar to your automobile in that they both
require regular maintenance for optimum performance and longevity. Many people expect their heating and air conditioning equipment to operate 24 hours a day year round and never breakdown.
Regular maintenance is the only way to reduce the likelihood of breakdown and extend the life of your equipment.
Heating
Gas Fired Furnaces use a Heat Exchanger(s) to transfer Clean Heat to the Living Space. Oil Fired Furnaces use a Firebox to transfer Clean Heat to the Living Space. Any Break in the sealed Heat Exchanger or Firebox will cause CO (carbon monoxide) in the Living Space. Also, Poor Combustion (unburned fuel) can cause CO around the Furnace and may work its way into the Living Space.
Sizing Furnaces is also very important. An oversized Unit or System will Short Cycle. An Undersized Unit or System will run continuously and without reaching a set temperature. The best way to Size a Furnace is with Heat Calculations using many Building considerations and Climate. Here are good "rule of thumbs" for a quick Heat Calculation in climates that drop to –10 to -15C degrees. A Building with 8 foot ceilings and is well Insulated use 35 Btu/square foot. Older Buildings with 8 foot ceilings or Temperatures below -15 degrees use 50 Btu/square foot.
Cooling
You can reduce noise from air conditioning devices by selecting a quiet unit, choosing the best location and following proper installation and manufacturers procedures.
Air Filter(s) have many considerations, such as:
If the home is new or in a very dusty location, I suggest replacement of Throw-a-way or cleaning of Washable Air Filter(s) every Month during the usage Season's.
Under normal conditions, I suggest replacement of Throw-a-way or cleaning of Washable Air Filter(s) at least every Season during the usage Month's. Remember to always install Air filter(s) in the Proper direction with the Arrow(s) toward the Coil (Inside Coil or Evaporator), Furnace or Air Handler.
